Carbohydrates are the most vital source of calories, also known as kilojoules.  Eaten in moderation, carbohydrates cannot cause weight gain. It is however only through an over-indulgence of the same that can lead to weight gain. Even when this happens, burning the same through regular work outs will reduce the likelihood of the carbohydrates being stored by the body as fats. Most often, the carbohydrates eaten as part of a balanced meal are a healthy way of gaining weight. Some of the additions like margarine and butter that add the unhealthy bit to thecarbohydrates.   Here is how to use carbohydrates to meet your weight gain objectives

  • Eat more carbohydrates in order to meet your increased calorie requirement. Ideally, this should not include highly-processedcarbohydrates or high-sugar diets.  This is because the highly-refined carbohydrates increase the hazard of developing metabolic disorders such as type II diabetes and insulin insensitivity among others.
  • Know the vital sources of good carbohydrates.  Such include food rich in complex carbohydrate (Potatoes, pulses and cereals) and healthy sugars found in vegetables and fruits.
  • Know that carbohydrates contain sugar. However, the distinction between good and bad carbohydrates lies in the nutrition, fiber and water content in the different foods.
  • Good carbohydrates contain fiber, which keeps you full for longer and also increases your water intake. This works well for your weight gainplan.
  • Eat vegetables and fruits because they too contain micro-nutrients and phyto-chemicals which guard the body from disease and hence lowers the chances of loosing weight to a Best Weight Gain and illness.
