Baby Weight Gain

Getting your first baby is both exciting and nerve wrecking. A majority of first time mothers worry that they cannot be able to take good care of their bundle of joy. However, they get by just fine. For your baby to stay healthy he/she must eat well. Baby weight gain is a concern for many first time parents. It is possible that you will hear comments from mothers with older children how their kids had no problem adding weight after birth. What you must bear in mind is that babies are different. That is, while some will add weight in a short, others might take a while.

It is important that you monitor the amount of weight the baby gains especially in the first three months. Monitoring baby weight gain is best performed by keeping track of how much he/she is eating and how much is leaving his/her body. If you are breastfeeding, you need to keep a record of how long and how often. The importance of this is that it helps you determine whether the infant is eating sufficient and for an adequate time to benefit from the breastfeeding.

To monitor baby weight gain you must also monitor his/her output. Your baby ought to wet several diapers and poop at least once. This shows that he/she is eating well. You do not need to be told that babies who eat well are able to add weight and remain healthy. If you are unsure of how to monitor baby weight gain, you need to consult your physician.
