Cholesterol Weight Gain

in Health and Weight Gain

High levels of cholesterol are an indication of not only unhealthy eating habits, but may in some cases be indicative of an underlying medical conditions such as insulin resistance, obesity or excess weight. For underweight the obesity and excess weight is obviously out of question. However is quite possible for a lean person to suffer from insulin resistance.  When insulin resistance occurs, the body releases increased amounts of insulin in an attempt to keep the glucose levels in the body at normal levels.

  • When too much insulin is released into the body, the body is stimulated into storing lipids and modified lipoproteins (cholesterol) thus posing a threat to one’s cardiovascular system.
  • In response to the excess insulin in the body, the liver reacts by producing triglycerides (blood lipids), which in turn fosters the build-up of plaque around the artery walls. This results in the increase of bad cholesterol, which in turn increases the chances of one getting a heart disease.
  • A person who wants to gain weight should be wary of sudden rise in his or her weight. When such occurs, one should seek a doctor’s opinion on the same.
  • In addition to weight gain, other symptoms that may point to an increase in cholesterol levels include metabolic syndrome.

To avoid cholesterol weight gain, a person seeking to gain weight should eat healthy diets, engage in an exercise routine, drink a lot of clean water and consume more calories per day.  The three most important meals that one should never miss include breakfast, lunch and dinner. In between the main meals, one can take snacks and other healthy drinks. Some studies also indicate that speedy weight gain during the first months of a baby’s life may also increase the chances of developing hypertension in adulthood.
