Being underweight does not give you permission to eat whatever you want. Although you may be desperate to gain weight, some of the diets you may indulge in only serves to make your health poor and thus further compromising your weight gain efforts. Here are foods you must include in your diet when trying to eat to gain weight

  • Carbohydrates: Foods in this food group contain carbon, hydrogen and oxygen and thus provides the body with heat and energy upon consumption.  Carbohydrates will give you the calories that you need in your quest to gain weight. However, food in this category should be eaten in moderation and only the healthy carbohydrates should be consumed. Avoid highly refined carbohydrates and too much sugar.
  • Proteins: foods in this category are necessary for building muscle in the body and are therefore recommended for people willing togain weight.  The foods include beans, lean meat, chicken, fish, eggs, milk and a variety of animal and plant products.
  • Vitamins: foods in this category are necessary for general growth and good health. They contain nutrients and chemical substances that aid in the general development of the body. Foods in this category include all fruits (oranges, bananas, apples, water melons, pears, guavas among others), and vegetables such as carrots, onions, lettuce, cauliflower, pumpkin, cucumber, cabbage, spinach and artichoke among others

Eating the three listed foods ensures that the body has all the vital nutrients needed for normal growth and development. Fats can also be eaten in moderation. One should especially lay special emphasis in the consumption of healthy fats, which have low cholesterol
