The association between hypertension and weight gain in the medical field is linear. This is especially true in adults, who are more likely to develop hypertension.  When one develops hypertension, the ill health increases his or her chances of adding on more pounds because he or she may no longer be able to exercise in order to burn the extra calories in the body.

Unfortunately, hypertension can remain undiagnosed for a long time especially In people who do not see the need to go for regular medical check-ups. Without early medical intervention, the condition can lead to other ailments such as congestive heart failure and kidney damage.

  • Some studies have proven that there is a link between insulin resistance and increased blood pressure. Insulin increases the chances offatty deposits building up within the diameter of the blood vessels.
  • Unhealthy weight gain can also lead to Atherosclerosis, which is a condition where by fatty substances and waste products from the cells build up inside the artery walls. This often starts with the settling of bad cholesterol inside the arteries. The presence of triglycerides also contribute to increased plaque in the arteries
  • Constant increase of insulin and glucose levels are a symptom that the body is developing or has already developed insulin resistance. The two have been blamed for increased probabilities of developing obesity or gaining unhealthy kilos.
  • Insulin has caustic effects on the inside parts of the artery walls. This causes the original injury that leads to the build up of plaque inside the artery walls.
