Increased Appetite Weight Gain

in Weight Gain

An increase in appetite no doubts means that one gets to eat more food. While an increase in appetite may be beyond one’s control at first, it is always important to find just what is bringing about the increase of appetite. Failure to effectively manage the food that one consumes during such times means that gaining weight is inevitable. This is especially true about people who unselectively indulge in all types of food. While an increase in appetite may be a blessing in disguise for people seeking to gain weight, it only leads to weight gain in people of normal weights, or those who are overweight.  Here is how to avoid packing too many pounds during periods of increased appetite

  • Work to find the underlying cause of the increased appetite fast. Often, appetite is stimulated by psychological conditions such as depression, stress or anxiety.  By dealing with the underlying cause, one is able to get back to normal eating habits sooner.
  • Engage in physical activities, which in addition to helping you deal with the underlying cause, will also help you to burn the extracalories that you accumulate during this period.
  • Avoid the temptation to obey your cravings for sweet foods and candy.
  • Eat no more than the recommended carbohydrate portions per day. This is because carbohydrate are digested and stored as extra fatwhen the body cannot use them all.
  • Have an adequate amount of vegetables and fruits in the house or work place. This means that every time you feel the urge to eat, you will reach out for a healthy alternative rather than indulging in fast foods.
