- One problem with being underweight is that it results in an immune system that is weak. When one is underweight, it is probably because they are not eating enough. Consequently, their bodies may not be getting the necessary nutrients. Without nourishment, the body’s immune system is unable to effectively fight off disease and illnesses.
- Underweight women will suffer from amenorrhea, a condition where they stop menstruating. It does not take a rocket scientist to understand that a woman who does not menstruate will have a hard time conceiving. Women who are underweight while pregnant are more likely to have complications while giving birth.
- Young people may become underweight as a result of skipping their meals. They are likely to develop osteoporosis since their bodies may not be absorbing the necessary nutrients and minerals in the correct amounts. It goes without saying that underweight individuals do not take enough of important nutrients such as calcium. Consequently, their bones are likely to become brittle. They may be unable to participate in sporting activities as their bones may break easily and fail to heal effectively as their bodies lack the right minerals.
- Body weakness, fatigue, dizziness and hunger may be mild problems associated with being underweight.
Underweight individuals are not affected by heart ailments. What is more, they are considered to live longer than their overweight counterparts. However, it is evident that the cons out-weigh the pros. For this reason, you should choose to gain weight over being underweight.
