Sleep apnea weight gain

Sleep apnea is problem that is caused by inadequate sleeping patterns that make someone wake up in the morning when they are tired and are usually not alert during the day. Sleep apnea weight gain is a relatively common problem that is accompanied by morning headaches when you wake up or you experience dry throat when waking up.

A scientific definition of sleep apnea is where there is termination of breath or breathlessness over some extended time while someone is sleeping. Usually this is caused by collapsed or blocked airway during sleep, leading to disturbed sleep as there are low levels of oxygen in the brain.

There are various reasons that cause sleep apnea and the most common reason is the kind of lifestyle that one is leading.  Alcohol consumption, smoking and poor eating habit will definitely lead to sleep apnea weight gain. Excess weight has been cited as a chief reason that causes sleep apnea, other reasons include: a large neck, abnormalities in the structure of the airway, a recessed chin etc.

However, sleep apnea is more often found in people who are overweight though this does not rule out that even people who are not overweight cannot get sleep apnea. Sleep apnea weight gain can be a life threatening situation causing reduced sleep and a drop in oxygen that is in the blood. This would ultimately lead to stress hormones being triggered. These among other health problems such as heart attack, high blood pressure are usually caused by sleep apnea.
