Vitamins are vital in any weight gain plan. This is because they contain vital nutrients that are responsible for good health and general body development. Although vitamins do not contain as many calories as carbohydrates do, nor as much muscle building capacity as the proteins, vitamins ensure that the body is healthy inn readiness for weight gain. Sources of vitamins include:

  • Vegetables: The green leafy vegetables contain Vitamin B, which helps the body to make energy and sets the ground for effective digestion ofproteins.  Vitamin A is to be found in brightly colored vegetables such as carrots. Vitamin C is mainly found in citrus fruits such as oranges
  • Fruits
  • Vitamin supplements

Vitamins are divided into two categories: the water soluble vitamins and the fat soluble vitamins. The fat soluble vitamins can help one gain weight since they dissolve in fat cells awaiting use by the body. Fat-soluble vitamins include vitamins K, E, D and A.  Water soluble vitamins on the other hand do not stick around in the body. If they are not absorbed immediately by the body, they are disposed off through urine.

Vitamin E also contributes to weight gain since it plays a vital role in the production of red blood cells, which form blood. The vitamin is also responsible for maintaining body tissue and therefore works well with proteins in the attempt to build muscle.  Foods rich in vitamin E include nuts, seeds, egg yolks, sardines, leafy vegetables, wheat germ and whole grains.
